The Medical City Now Offers Philhealth Z Benefit Package on Colorectal Cancer

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. This is an important campaign as colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer among Filipinos. Breast and lung cancers are more prevalent in the Philippines. If you’re suffering from said cancer and you’re a PhilHealth member, did you know that The Medical City announced during a presscon held recently that they now offer Philhealth Z Benefit Package on Colorectal Cancer.

The Medical City is now ready to provide the special benefits package for members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) who are diagnosed withcolorectal cancer.
The Z Benefits will provide state of the art treatment for early stage up to stage III colon and rectum cancers that can up the survival rate from this disease.

Under this agreement with PhilHealth, TMC shall make available the benefit packages for colon cancer Stage I to II (low risk) worth P150,000 up to Stage II (high risk)-III worth P300,000 to PhilHealth members who pass the selections criteria. The Z benefit rate for the entire course of treatment for rectum cancer Stages I to III is P150,000 to P400,000.

TMC will also implement the ceiling amount of P 300,000 as maximum co-payment for colon cancer, and P300,000 for rectum cancer for PhilHealth members and their dependents who are classified as charity patients Classes 1 and 2, as well as to members with income of less than P50,000 per household per year.

Who are eligible: Patients with Stage I to III colorectal cancer (TMC’s screening committee shall refer the patient to the PhilHealth Officer for completion of requirements.)

How do we know they have colorectal cancer: They must have their pathology/colonic biopsy report with them when they apply.

How do we know they are NOT Stage IV: StageIVmeans that the cancer has spread to other organs or parts of the body. It may also be called advanced or metastatic cancer. To be eligible for this package, patients must present their chest Xray results and liver ultrasound or CT abdomen results stating NO MASSmetastases in the lungs and liver.

What are the other criteria that will increase the likelihood they will be sponsored by the Philhealth Z Package:

a) They must have no other uncontrolled illness like uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension.
b) They must be able to walk unassisted, feed themselves, do activities of daily living on their own.
c) They must be willing to meet with their team of doctors and participate in the planning and payment for their treatment.

If you have Colon or Rectal Cancer, Stage I to III, and have proper documents ((pathology/colonic biopsy report), go to The Medical City Augusto P. Sarmiento Cancer Institute (APSCI), at 8th Flr., With the referral order from the doctor to be reviewed by the TMC Screening Committee.

Step 2: Go to the Philhealth Officer for the required documents.
Step 3: APSCI will schedule a Multidisciplinary Team Conference (MDTC) or Family Meeting.
Step 4: Submit PhilHealth requirements for pre-authorization approval.
Step 5: Resolve procedure tests after PhilHealth.

What is the commitment of the Augusto P. Sarmiento Cancer Institute (APSCI) of The Medical City:

Treatment cost will be minimized and special discounts from the hospital and doctors will be given without compromising outcomes. The patient will be fully informed of plans for care and will be part of a Multidisciplinary Team of doctors and allied health professionals.
